Small Businesses Make Their Mark When Crisis Hits

Who says you have to be a Fortune 500 company to make a difference when crisis hits? Many small businesses get discouraged when human crisis hit and they open their wallets to find only small change. Others, for example like FlatRate Moving looked deeper than their wallets and found other ways to help.
New York City, NY (PRWEB) January 8, 2005 -- One New York City business is showing that you don't have to donate top dollars to make a difference. FlatRate Moving Company looked deeper than their pockets, they look to their business as a way to help the less fortunate. In response to the recent tsunami crisis, FlatRate is making it's mark, on a local level. "During these times of crisis, our attention shifts from ourselves to those who are less fortunate. Let us not forget the homeless in our own backyard," is the philosophy of Eric Klepar, General manager of FlatRate Moving. This downtown Manhattan moving company launched its "Furnished Home" Program last December, and by partnering with a nonprofit organization that helps the formerly homeless get back on their feet, FlatRate donated thousands of dollars in moving services, trucks, and men in December alone. They even set up a link on their website www.flatrate.com in order for people to donate easily. By doing so, they were able to help furnish the homes of formerly homeless families. They plan to continue this program on their own, this time helping different nonprofit organizations every month, from women and children's shelters to needy individuals who needs a lucky break. "It just makes sense for us," said Kleper. "We are a small business; we don't have the resources to break the piggy bank. So instead, we are donating what we do best everyday--furniture, trucks, and moving men--our core competencies." Think small businesses don't have the resources to make a difference? These businesses may be small, but theu are mighty in the eyes of those they help. For more information on this company, visit their website at www.flatrate.com
